"Amid growing geopolitical turbulence, many companies have spent the past several years diversifying their supply chains: secondary suppliers, expanded sourcing, and contingency plans for disruptions. 

On paper, the result often looks reassuring, with fewer single points of failure and more options if something goes wrong.

Yet resilience depends not only on the number of suppliers a company has, but also on whether those suppliers are truly independent of one another. This distinction is easy to miss because supply chains that appear diversified on the surface often converge deeper down, relying on the same shipping routes, energy systems, processing facilities, logistics networks, or critical inputs...."
